World No. 1 Jannik Sinner got to the final of the Italian Open 2025 after defeating the durable Tommy Paul in the semifinals. On Friday, May 16, Sinner gathered from the orchard to defeat his American opponent 1-6, 6-0, 6-3 at the Court centers. Sinner also created a blockbuster final against Carlos Alcaraz, with victory, who beat Lorenzo Musetti earlier during the day.
Sinner looked into various problems in the first set after dropping twice from his portion and not getting one chance to break Paul’s portion. However, as soon as he became 2-0 in the second set with his first break, Sinner became unstoppable. He got four more breaks to complete the match in an hour and 43 minutes.
“Tried to stay there mentally”
After the match, Sinner admitted he had trouble at first while trying to adapt to “colder” conditions. He said he tried to keep his peace, even though he was very broken in the match.
“I tried to stay mentally. The conditions were completely different. It’s much colder today. The ball is a little harder. I fought a little. Immediately broke me, so it’s a direct blow in my face. But I tried to stay mentally. I try to understand what could work better,” Sinner said.
“I stayed there in the first set. The victory of 1 game was very important to me. Tennis can change quickly. I said with Casper yesterday. Every moment is very crucial. Very happy I’m in the finals,” Sinner added.
With his victory, Sinner became the first Italian man to achieve the final in Rome since 1978. He also became the youngest man who had achieved 7 consecutive finals since Ivan Lendl in 1982. Sinner went to the final in Cincinnati, US Open, Beijing, Shanghai, ATP Finals, Australian Open and Rome.
