Jana Nayagan starring Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has been scrutinized by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and a certificate for the film is likely to be issued in two or three days, a senior official told The Hindu. The film, which is Mr. Vijay’s latest, has been screening at the CBFC since January in the run-up to the Tamil Nadu assembly elections earlier this year.
The film’s delay resulted in lost revenue for the film’s producers and distributors. Its delay is due to a private complaint that led to a halt in the certification process. While a single judge of the Madras High Court in January ordered the CBFC to issue the certificate immediately, a division bench overturned it and the producers were unable to secure the certificate.
Venkat K. Narayana, the founder of KVN Productions, which funded Jana Nayagan, has been appointed as the Special Representative of the Tamil Nadu Government in New Delhi. Mr. Narayana also accompanied Mr. Vijay on one of his visits to the Raj Bhavan when the latter staked his claim to form the government.
While Mr. Vijay won the elections, the film suffered another setback when it leaked in high quality in April. In the following weeks, Chennai police arrested more than a dozen people in connection with the leak. The “engineer” was arrested on June 10, the Cyber Crime Wing said.
