Sunil Gavaskar and Jemimah Rodrigues have reunited for another musical moment on social media, months after their World Cup bet turned into one of Indian cricket’s most heartwarming viral stories. Jemimah recently shared an Instagram video of the pair playing guitar and singing together, rekindling the bond that first caught the eye during India’s 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup-winning campaign.

Their story began during the semi-final encounter against Australia at the DY Patil Stadium, where Jemimah produced one of the most significant innings of the tournament. Her unbeaten 127 propelled India to a record run chase – the highest ever successfully completed in a Women’s World Cup knockout match – and secured the team a place in the final.

While covering the tournament, Gavaskar jokingly promised Jemimah, while speaking exclusively to India Todaythat if India lifted the trophy, they would celebrate with a musical jam. India eventually defeated South Africa in the final to claim their first women’s ODI World Cup crown and the former captain kept his word.

Earlier this year, Gavaskar surprised fans by making an appearance a specially designed guitar in the shape of a cricket bat — quickly dubbed “bat-ar” online. The duo then performed Yeh Dosti together in a reel that quickly went viral across social media platforms.

Their latest video seems to build on that connection and isn’t just another collaboration. Jemimah captioned the clip with an emotional message, thanking Gavaskar for keeping his promise and calling him a “true legend”.

The timing of the reel also coincides with India preparing for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, where they head into the competition with the confidence of the reigning ODI champions after last year’s historic triumph.

India open their campaign against Pakistan on June 14 and Jemimah is expected to play a central role in the batting order once again after her memorable performances during the World Cup winning run.

What started as a hilarious televised exchange during a global tournament has since evolved into one of the most charming off-field stories associated with the rise of women’s cricket in India.
