
Minister of external things S. Jaishankar said on Friday that the modernization of India’s technical mission in Kabul for the Status of India.
During a meeting with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, Jaishankar described a visit to Muttaqi as “an important step in the development of Indian Afghanistan ties”.

“India is fully committed to sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence. Closer cooperation between us contributes to your national development as well as regional stability and durability. To strengthen it, I am pleased to announce the modernization of the technical mission in India, Kabul, India,” he added.
Visit Muttaqi 9.-16. October is the first delegation at a high level from Kabul to Nový Delhi because the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in August 2021.

During his meeting, Jaishankar welcomed Kabul’s invitation to Indian companies to explore mining opportunities in Afghanistan and call it “deeply awarded” and open for further discussion. He said, “We have a common interest in strengthening trade and trade. I am glad to notice another flight between Kabul and the new dill.”
Muttaqi calls India a “close friend”
The new Deli maintained consistent contact with the Taliban and established a technical mission in Kabul in 2022, a year after the group regained power to focus on humanitarian aid and development efforts.

Afghan FM Muttaqi said he was “happy to be in Delhi, and this visit will increase understanding between the two countries”. India and Afghanistan should increase their obligations and exchanges … We will not allow any group to use our territories against others, he added.
India has long been home to tens of thousands of Afghans, including students and entrepreneurs, many of whom have fled after the Taliban take over. Although in November 2023 the Afghan embassy in Nový Delhi permanently closed, its consulates in Mumbai and Hyderabad remain open and offer limited services.
The UN Security Council has given Muttaqi a temporary exception to international travel restrictions, allowing him to visit India for a week of October 9. His earlier visit, planned for last month, was canceled after he could not secure an exception to the visa.

The current Muttaqi trip is a rare diplomatic involvement between India and the Taliban Administration, which in Afghanistan has reached power for the second time since its first regime in 1996.
A visit to Muttaqi, India, comes on the heels of his participation in a multilateral meeting in Afghanistan, held on Tuesday in Russia, including representatives of China, India, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
His visit underlines the continuing pressure of the Taliban administration for international recognition and at the same time emphasizes the strategic recalibration of India in the region. The aim of India is to promote its influence in Afghanistan and face the growing presence of regional opponents of Pakistan and China, who both remain deeply involved in the country’s matters.
