Congress leader T. Jagga Reddy alleged that police misconduct provoked him to become aggressive at the polling station in Sangareddy. He said his reaction was due to the humiliation of Congress workers by the police inspector during the municipal elections.
Responding to the police case filed against him for insulting the police, he said that the circle inspector allegedly detained, dragged and assaulted the Congress leader near the polling booth. The police officer allegedly humiliated a party member in public when he allegedly acted in favor of the candidate of the opposition party.
“I went to the polling station only because the inspector publicly insulted and attacked my party worker,” he said. He added that though he could have lodged a complaint with senior police officials, such a move would not undo the humiliation his party worker had suffered in front of the people.
The Congress leader further said that if a police officer or he himself has violated the election rules, the authorities are free to act according to the law. “The judiciary will decide who is right and who is wrong,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Reddy alleged that Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders, including KT Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao, had repeatedly circulated the incident on social media, accusing him of attacking officials. He countered the allegations by recalling past instances of BRS leaders allegedly abusing and assaulting police personnel.
“Before you comment on me, BRS social media should be held accountable for the actions and language used earlier by their leaders against police officers,” he said.
