Jagan, Sharmila pay tribute to YSR in Kadapa district on 17th death anniversary

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President YS Sharmila paid tributes to their father, former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy at his grave at Idupulapaya in Kadapa district on his death anniversary on Wednesday (September 2, 2026). The duo visited separately, as they have since their political split.

Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy arrived at YSR Estates with his wife YS Bharathi Reddy and other family members, garlanded Samadhi and sat in silence for a few minutes. He also decorated a bust of his father on the spot. “I always miss you dad…! You will always be my inspiration,” he wrote on X. Kadapa MP YS Avinash Reddy, his maternal uncle and YSRCP Kadapa district president P. Ravindranath Reddy and former Chandragiri MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy were among those present.

APCC President YS Sharmila paid homage at YSR Samadhi at Idupulapaya in Kadapa district on Wednesday.

Ms. Sharmila offered a wreath and garland at the Samadhi. Calling her father the “heartthrob” of Telugu millions who benefited from Jalayagnam, toll payment, free energy for agriculture and Aarogyasri, she said the state would always remain indebted to him. “All the projects considered as his pet programs are hard to imagine and impossible for any other leader to implement. These programs will always bear YSR’s imprint,” she said. She said she prayed for the welfare and prosperity of the state.

A man they remembered

YS Rajasekhara Reddy was Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh from 2004 until his death, Lok Sabha Member from Kadapa for four terms and MLA from Pulivendula for six. He died on 2 September 2009, months after leading the Congress to a second consecutive victory, when the helicopter carrying him went missing over the Nallamala forest; the wreck was found the next day and all five on board were dead. Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the then Congress MP, left the party to form the YSRCP; After her own party in Telangana, Ms Sharmila merged it with the Congress and took over its Andhra Pradesh unit in 2024.
