Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Minister Satya Kumar Yadav criticized YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for “inciting party workers” to stage protests against the establishment of medical colleges under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy, who had fixed exorbitant annual fees of Rs 12 lakh and Rs 20 lakh for seats in government medical colleges when he was Chief Minister, is now shedding crocodile tears,” said Mr Satya Kumar, adding that the YSRCP leader was indulging in cheap politics.
Although the people gave him a crushing defeat in the 2024 elections, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy, he said, had not learned his lesson.
Referring to YSRCP’s one million signature campaign against the PPP model, the minister wondered how many of them could be fake. He asked Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy if he knew the difference between privatization and PPP model.
“Under the PPP model, the state government will retain full control over admissions, reservations, fee regulation and administration in all the 10 medical colleges to be set up under the model. The land allotted to these colleges will remain the property of the government,” the minister said, adding that the state government reserved the right to intervene if there was any lapse.
