YSR Congress Party President and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday spoke to former minister Vidadala Rajini and former MLA Bolla Brahmanaidu over phone and inquired about their welfare following the alleged attacks on them by Telugu Desam Party cadres. He urged them to remain courageous and assured them of the party’s full support.
Condemning the incidents, Mr. Jagan said the prevailing situation in Andhra Pradesh reflected a “jungle paradise” and alleged that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu ran a barbaric and vindictive government. He said law and order in the state had completely broken down and attacks were being carried out to silence those who questioned the government.
He further alleged that the ruling leadership is misusing the police machinery to cover up wrongdoing and facilitate politically motivated attacks. According to him, such incidents point to a dangerous erosion of democratic norms. Mr Jagan reiterated that the YSR Congress Party would stand firm with its leaders and workers in the face of intimidation and violence.
Tension prevailed in parts of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday following alleged attacks by TDP activists on the residences of YSRCP leaders Jogi Ramesh in Ibrahimpatnam and former minister Ambati Rambabu in Guntur. Stones were reportedly pelted at Mr. Ramesh’s house, which was also set on fire, even as the police tried to control the large crowds.
YSRCP State Coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy accused the TDP of orchestrating a “planned conspiracy” to remove Mr. Ambati Rambabu and the alleged inaction of the police during the attacks. Visiting Mr. Rambabu’s residence along with senior party leaders, he said the violence was aimed at diverting public attention from the CBI SIT charges, which he claimed ruled out the presence of animal fat in Tirumala laddu ghee.
Former minister Perni Venkatramaiah (Nani) also condemned the attack, calling it a government-backed attempt to silence dissent. The YSR Congress Party said it would take legal action and raise the issue at the national level.
