
New Delhi: The Indian Inland Waterways (IWAI) office has taken several key decisions related to the inland waterway sectors (IWT), including the establishment of three tourist pier and Regional Center of Excellence (RCOE) in Assam and the establishment Water water supply sector.
He also entrusted NTCPWC (National Technology Center for Ports, Waterways and Coast), IIT Madras, preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the upcoming boat repair facilities in Patna in Bihar.

The decision was adopted at the IWAI Board of Directors, which took place in Delhi.
For the development of IWT in the northeast, the Iwai Council approved a proposal for the establishment of three tourist pier in Silghat, Bishwanath Ghat and Guijan and one tourist Cargo Mola in Neam in Assam. These moths will help solve the growing demand for the movement of cargo and passengers by providing improved infrastructure and services in the region.
It will offer better connectivity with regional and national tourist districts through inland waterways and help stimulate economic growth through business and tourism activities in the northeast region.
The IWAI Council also approved a proposal for the development of the Regional Excellence Center in Bogibeel, Assam. With a training capacity of 5 396 participants, the proposed center will serve as a specialized center for training, research and building capacities in the IWT sector. It will deal with an acute lack of qualified workforce in the northeast by offering certified educational programs in accordance with the Inland vessel Act, 2021.

In order to further strengthen the IWT infrastructure in the northeast, the Council also approved a proposal for the development of land with an area of 2,154 m2 in Fancy Bazaar, Guwahati, through Indian Port Rail and Ropeway Corporation LTD (IPRCL).
The Iwai Council also entered the DPR for the Patna ship repair equipment. Minister of ports, transport and waterway, Sarbanand Sonowal, announced the establishment of this new device in Patna on the National Waterway-1 consulting seminar last week in Bihar.
In addition, the Council approved the extended Port Gate system, which will be developed by the port of Syam Prasad Mokerjee in Balagarh, West Bengal.
The Board of Directors also decided to set up the Indian Waterway Congress to identify and accept the best global procedures in the waterway sector, support standardization, and deploy top technologies for sustainable growth in the IWT sector.

In addition, the Board of Directors also approved a report on the Revision of the National Institute of the Intelligent Government Institute for IWAI restructuring, which will prepare Iwai to meet the growing challenges of the IWT sector and achieve the goals to strengthen cargo and tourism.
IWAI is currently working to increase the capacity of NW-2, NW-3 and NW-16 by developing IWT terminals, navigation by means of end-to-end contracts, navigation aids such as night navigation devices and navigation locks.
