Rohit Sharma fans were furious with the Indian cricket board after BCCI’s stupid blunder at Naman Awards 2026. Razor-eyed Rohit fans noticed on TV that the BCCI graphics team had addressed Shubman Gill as the captain of the Champions Trophy winner, a mistake that didn’t sit well with them.
A section of Rohit Sharma’s fans attacked the BCCI and claimed that the board tried to cover up what Rohit had done with the ODI team as the captain of the side. At the time, Gill was the vice-captain of the Indian ODI team that defeated New Zealand in the final of the Champions Trophy in Dubai.

Despite winning the Champions Trophy, Rohit Sharma was dropped as India’s ODI captain. The mantle was passed to young Shubman Gill who also took over the Test side. As India prepares for the 2027 ODI World Cup, the focus and scrutiny will be on Gill and the style of play that India have adopted under his leadership.
After a tough start to his tenure against Australia, Shubman Gill performed well against New Zealand just before the T20 World Cup. Under his guidance, Rohit Sharma got off to a great start in Australia but later floundered.
One player who has risen to the top again, unencumbered by the weight of leadership, is Virat Kohli. The batsman reinvented his batting in the ODI World Cup push and played for fun in the recent ODIs.
India’s ODI captain Shubman Gill did not feature in the T20 World Cup side. The batter will now focus on the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League and then focus on the ODI side to face Afghanistan and then England in bilateral matches.
India coach Gautam Gambhir had earlier mentioned that he will have the ODI World Cup 2027 plan ready by the end of IPL 2026 and Shubman Gill will play a key role in executing his plans.
