‘Itna mat gir jao’: No Shreyas Iyer at KKR IPL 2024 celebration post; fans blast permission

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) once again left out their captain Shreyas Iyer, winner of IPL 2024, in a social media post to mark the second anniversary of the franchise’s third IPL title.Shreyas Iyer’s relationship with KKR has remained a talking point since the release of the franchise despite leading them to their first IPL title in 10 years in 2024. He was later signed by Punjab Kings for INR 26.75 crores in the mega auction.Last year, in an interview with TimesofIndia.com, Iyer also said that he did not get enough credit for KKR’s IPL-winning campaign.On 26 May 2024, KKR beat Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL final to win their third title. On Tuesday, the franchise commemorated the second anniversary of that triumph by sharing graphic posts on social media with players from the winning squad, but former captain Iyer was absent from the crowd.The main graphic showed Andre Russell holding the IPL trophy, while other posts highlighted the performances of the KKR players in the IPL 2024 final.Fans were quick to notice Iyer’s absence and criticized the franchise on social media.“Just like the KKR admin’s determination not to include Shreyas Iyer in posts celebrating trophies,” wrote one user sarcastically.Another user wrote, “The first thing the KKR admin does on May 26 every year is to wake up and remove Shreyas Iyer from his trophy celebration pictures.”“I thought we were classier than this, regardless of our differences with Shreyas we shouldn’t have soiled him here. He won the title as captain,” wrote another user, apparently a KKR fan.This is not the first time that KKR has faced criticism over this issue. Since 2025, a section of fans have repeatedly accused the franchise of not giving enough credit to Iyer’s role in the IPL 2024 title-winning campaign.Meanwhile, KKR had a disappointing IPL 2026 season under Ajinkya Rahane. The side managed just six wins in 14 matches and failed to qualify for the play-offs. KKR also suffered six consecutive defeats during the season before remaining in contention for a playoff spot until their last league match.Iyer’s exit from KKR ahead of the mega auction in 2025 surprised many fans, especially after he led the franchise to the title.
