Who would think we had such a long connection with Italy? Of course, due to the persistent legend of St. Tomas, it is no wonder that outside the old -time trade it was the Jesuits who were the first to connect. Roberto de Nobili in 16/17. It has been here for a long time and it is believed to rest in an unmarked grave in Mylapore. Then came Beschi aka Veeramamunivar, who worked a lot in Tamil and has a statue on the beach in his honor. At the end of the 19th century, the name Marina was on the beach was the otherwise forgotten governor of Grant Duff, after his memories in Sicily.
The church in Rome had many headaches that he could deal with in distant Madras, mainly about conflicts between Portuguese San Thome and the Catholic contingent inside Fort St. George, who was worshiped in the Church of Capuchin in St. Andrews. It was in the 17th century, when the second sanctuary was founded by Efraim de Nersers for Portuguese and Eurasians in the fortress. He also founded the Church of Our Lady on Armenian Street. None of this was on the basis of the Orthodox in Luz and many alarums and excursions, Rome ordered that Cooum would be a brand between two dioceses – Mylapore to the south and Madras to the north. The Church of Our Lady on Armenian Street became a cathedral for the last assembly.
After independence, it all became the diocese of Madras-mylapore, San Thome became a cathedral and St. Mary’s became a co -founder.
Chronicler and charlat
Chronicler of sensational Mughal Tales, Niccolao Manucci lived in Madras at the end of the 17th and early 18th century, married an English woman and practiced like (quack) a doctor. He wrote his accounts Mugal as Storia in Mogor and eventually died here. It is said that he lived somewhere near the place where the central station stands today. Manucci is a name that survives, but this was not the case for Signor de Vecchi, a silk entrepreneur.
In 1869, de Vecchi arrived here and created cooperation with Mr. Pater. He was mainly interested in the AS series The aim of strengthening indigenous silk works, bringing Japanese equivalents in cocoon with him. They were stored in an ice house so they could believe it was cold. A philatory was established in Bangalore, followed by a big effort and more correspondence. The government was very interested that the Parliament in England was regularly informed. But until 1874 the company was terminated and de Vecchi left Madras forever.
The teacher of the big figure
Can we forget about Maria Montessori? Maria came here in 1939 as a guest of Theosophical Society and expected her stay to be short, but extended to seven years! The Second World War broke out and was placed as an enemy in house arrest along with his son in Kodaikanal. The conditions were later alleviated and lectured on its education system with careful supervision. Although it was in many places throughout India, it was in Madras that it had a maximum impact.
