Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicated on Thursday that he wanted to visit India and urges the new Delhi to solve his tariff problem with the US.
“It will solve the problem of tariffs in the interests of India and the US,” Netanyahu said, PTI said. His statement comes after India took the trump wound when the US doubled its fee to 50 percent on imports.
Soon he showed interest in coming to India and hoped to increase cooperation with the ground.
“I would like to come to India soon, there is a huge space for expanding cooperation in India-Israel, including the areas of intelligence sharing, against terrorism,” the Israeli Prime Minister said during interaction with a group of visiting Indian journalists
Netanyahu’s comments come hours after he met the Indian Ambassador JP Singh to discuss the expansion of bilateral cooperation between India and Israel.
“The Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has now met in his Jerusalem office with the Indian ambassador to Israel JP Singh. The Prime Minister and the Ambassador discussed the expansion of bilateral cooperation, in particular security and economic issues,” Israeli PMO said in post X.
Netanyahu also noted that Israel does not want to attach or occupy Gaza and her only goal is to destroy Hamas and hand over the strip to the transitional government.
He said that Israel wants to take control of the security of Gaza after the end of the war as soon as possible.
Trump tariffs double for India
India deals with the double blow of American tariffs. Donald Trump doubled the tariffs on Indian imports to 50 % compared to the purchase of Russian oil.
American tariffs in India were announced in two phases: Trump first declared 25 % of the tariff 30 July and then 6 August imposed another 25 % obligation for Indian imports.
India’s total tariff now is 50 %, which is the highest of all countries along with Brazil.
India responded strongly to American tariffs and stated that the decision was “unfair”.
“We repeat again that these actions are unfair, unfounded and disproportionate,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in its statement.
