Australian spinner Adam Zampa has not registered for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season despite playing in the past. Zampa was part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) squad in IPL 2025 but played just two matches after suffering a recurring shoulder injury.
In the past, Adam Zampa played for Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the now defunct Rising Pune Supergiant. Overall in the IPL, the 34-year-old took 31 wickets from 22 matches.
He made his IPL debut with Rising Pune Supergiant in IPL 2016 and took 12 wickets from five matches. In terms of wickets, it was his best IPL season so far.
Although not currently part of any IPL franchise, Zampa plies his trade with Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). In a recent interview, the New South Wales cricketer explained why he decided to ditch the IPL for the PSL.
Why did Adam Žampa prefer PSL to IPL?
He stated that he quit the IPL in favor of the PSL due to the lesser financial compensation and hectic schedule of the former.
“I quit the IPL this year. To be brutally honest, for someone with my skill set, I just don’t get paid like others with other skill sets. And with the amount of time the IPL takes up, it just didn’t feel like a smart choice to continue playing,” Zampa said in an ARY News podcast.
“I wanted to take a break but the PSL was on the radar about a month ago. It’s all happened quite quickly but I’m enjoying it,” he added.
Zampa has made an impressive start to his PSL 2026 campaign, taking three wickets from two matches. In Karachi Kings last match against Lahore Qalandars on Sunday, he was exceptional as he took 2/11 to restrict Lahore to 128/9.
Karachi Kings won this match by four wickets, albeit in controversial circumstances.
In total, the legbreak googly bowler played 115 T20Is for Australia and took 147 wickets. He was part of the Australian team that won the 2021 T20 World Cup and finished as the tournament’s second-highest wicket-taker with 13 scalps in seven matches.
