Several parts of Shivamogga district received light rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunder on Sunday, offering much-needed relief from the scorching heat.
A sudden downpour that started with lightning and thunder around 5.30pm caught weekend shoppers off guard as the markets crowded ahead of the Ugadi festival this week. Some people unfurled umbrellas, others were forced to seek temporary shelter.
The rain, which lasted for more than an hour, left several city roads waterlogged and snarled traffic. Motorists had a hard time driving in the rain.
