The Minister of the Interior of the Union AMIT Shah said on Sunday (August 24, 2025) that parliament or assembly is a place of debate and discussion, but it is not good if the house is not allowed after a meeting in the name of the opposition for narrow political gains.
Mr. Shah made notes here to address the All India Speakers Conference conference, three days after the monsoon meeting of parliament ended with a small business carried out for repeated disturbances and adjourning after opposition protests.
The Minister of the Interior also stated that if there is a limited debate or discussion in parliament, the House’s contribution will be hit in the building of the nation.
“The debate must take place in a democracy. However, it is not good if the house must not work in the name of the opposition to the narrow political profits of someone.
“The opposition should always be limited. But in the name of the opposition, if the house must not function the day after the day or session after the session, it is not good. The country has to think about it, people have to think about it and elected representatives must think about it,” he said.
Mr. Shah said that all discussions must make sense and everyone must seek to increase dignity and respect for the post of speaker.
“We should work to offer an impartial platform to evoke people’s problems. The arguments of the Ministry of the Treasury and the opposition should be impartial. We must ensure that the house is performed according to the rules and regulations of the house,” he said.
The humiliation of Mahabharata Drouidi in Hastinapur said that whenever the dignity of the house is at risk, the country has seen terrible consequences.
The Minister of the Interior praised the democratic tradition of India from independence and said that democracy has roots so deep here that even a single drop of blood has not been released during the regime changes, unlike many countries where the democratic situation has deteriorated over the years.
He said that if there was no debate in parliament or legislative assembly, there would be inanimate buildings.
“The task of expressing opinions in these buildings is carried out by all members under the guidance of a speaker before becoming a living being working in the interests of the country and the state,” he said.
Shah, who described the speaker as the guardian and “Sevak” (servant), said Brainstorm is the best way to solve the problems of people in democracy.
He said that the objectives stipulated by the law should always be the well -being of people, including the development of the country, to ensure administrative efficiency, internal security and external security of the nation.
The Minister of the Interior also honored the Vittthalbhai Patel, the first elected Indian speaker of the Central Legislative Assembly.
He said that on this day 100 years ago, a great freedom warrior was appointed President of the Central Legislative Assembly, which meant the beginning of Indian legislative history.
Mr. Shah said that the post of Vitthalbhai, who was the brother of Sardar VallaBhbhai, has overshadowed over the years.
“If the country’s struggle in the country was important, then the operation of the country and the introduction of legislative procedures is equally important. Vitthalbhai Patel played an important role in creating and strengthening democracy even on difficult days. We should all remember it,” he said.
When he spoke of Vitthalbhai, Mr. Shah noted that he had created an independent legislative assembly.
He said that no legislative assembly could work under the elected government, and the legislative assembly should be independent. Vitthalbhai said that only then would the meaningfulness of the debates in legislative gatherings would be maintained, the Minister of the Interior said.
The Minister of the Interior said that the decision to establish an independent legislation department adopted by the VittThalbhai patel during the British era was also adopted by the Constitutional Assembly.
That is why this department today operates under the chairman of all legislative gatherings of the country, as well as in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, he said.
He said that the position of a speaker of the legislative assembly is at most important and is the responsibility of the speaker to protect the prestige of the house and its strengthening, and these tasks have been greatly performed by the Vitthalbhai patel.
Mr. Shah said that Vitthalbhai Patel worked on the foundation of many traditions in the house, which today serves as the main light for legislative work, especially for the speaker.
“Speaking of Vithalbhai patel, we, Gujarat people, proudly say that Gujarat gave two big individuals. The first brother Sardar Patel worked, and at night with Mahatma Gandhi in freedom.
“And the second, Vitthalbhai patel, laid the foundation of Indian legislative traditions and founded a strong foundation of today’s democracy,” he said.
