Vibhu Bakhr, the new Chief Judge of the Supreme Court in Karnataka, said on Saturday that it was his responsibility to strengthen the judiciary as it serves people, along with the protection of independence of the institution.

Previously, Governor Thaawwarchand Gehlot filed an oath of the office to the main judge of Bakhra at the ceremony held in the Glass House Raj Bhavan, attended by the main Minister Siddaramaiaha, Deputy Prime Minister DK Shivakumar, and the chairman of the Karnataka legislative council Basvaraj Horatti.
Loyalty
The main judge of Bakhr, who said that the sworn loyalty is the Institute of India, said that the constitution and freedom it guarantees would not be sustainable if the institutions on which they consist will be weak. “It is your faith in this institution that maintains it. It is our work to ensure that this faith is not incorrectly placed,” he said.
The ideals of the visionary Basvanan remind us that justice must overcome the privilege and achieve every corner of society, stated the main judge, while pointing out that Basavanna had taught a fair society based on dignity, justice and moral courage.
“Even though we are inspired by Dr. BR Ambedkar, whose commitment to social justice and constitutional values remains our main light, in Sir M. Visvesvaraiah, we recalled that public service, whether in engineering, administration and law, requires discipline, perfection and integrity.”
The main judge Bakhra was born in Nagpur in 1966 and had his education in Delhi, where he secured BCOM, Chartered Accountance, and LL.B Degrees and registered as a defense counsel in Delhi in 1990. Delhi since 5 December 2024 and 21 January 2025.
Converted judges
Meanwhile, Judge Jayant Banerji, who served as a judge of the High Court in Allahabad since 22 September 2017, composed an oath as a judge in Karnataka about his transfer from Allahabad. Judge DK Singh also composed an oath as a judge of the High Court in Karnataka, about his transfer from Kerala.
After the oaths and welcome ceremonies on Saturday, the High Court in Karnataka said goodbye to Judge V. Kames Raem, who was repatriated to the High Court in Delhi. From May 30 to July 18, he served as the reigning main judge of the Supreme Court in Karnataka.
