Mohammad Amir continued to attract attention with his outspoken predictions during the ongoing T20 World Cup, especially regarding the prospects of the Indian cricket team. The former Pakistan pacer has now weighed in on India’s chances and declared that they will not make it to the semi-finals of the ongoing tournament.
Among Amir’s final remarks are his rating of India’s Abhishek Sharmawhom he termed as a slogger who does not have a two in batting where he can defend the ball. This statement was met with criticism from Indian supporters and scholars.
When asked again about his predictions for the semi-finalists, Amir responded with another bold claim. The former pacer went on to say that even if Pakistan did not make it to the final four, India would not be there.
“Pakistan qualifies. Dekho, Pakistan kare na kare, India naaaa (It doesn’t matter whether Pakistan qualifies or not, India doesn’t),” Amir said on ‘Haarna Mana Hai’, surprising even the host of the show.
So far, only England and South Africa have qualified for the semi-finals. England top Group 2 and are expected to face either India or the West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, while South Africa, the tournament’s only unbeaten team so far, will face either New Zealand or Pakistan in Kolkata or Colombo.
Before the start of the Super 8s, Amir stated that India would not make it to the semi-finals because South Africa and West Indies were playing better cricket than them. After India lost to South Africa by 76 runs, his prediction seemed to come true and the situation attracted further attention as the Pakistani anchor called Amir an “astrologer”.
Despite Amir’s claims, India bounced back with a 72-run victory over Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The result set up a crucial Group 1 Super 8s match against the West Indies, with the winner advancing to the semi-finals.
WHAT DO INDIA, PAKISTAN HAVE TO DO TO MAKE THE SEMI-FINALS?
