Hyderabad’s Esha shot 43 shots in the final, one more than the previous senior world record and two more than the junior world record. 21-year-old Esha broke Korean shooter Kim Ye-ji’s record of 42 shots from 2024. The junior record was also held by Paris Olympic gold medalist Yang Ji-in (41) from Korea since 2024.In Wednesday’s final, Esha’s dominance could be judged by the five-point difference between gold and silver. Second place was sealed by seasoned German shooter Doreen Vennekamp (38).Esha, who won bronze at the World Championships last year, said she wanted to win a medal in Munich but never thought of getting it this way. “Munich World Cup is a very prestigious event and the scores go high here, so even qualifying for the final is a big achievement. I wanted to win a medal here badly. I didn’t think of setting a new world record but I’m glad I did because a gold record at this range would mean a lot,” Esha told TOI.The youngster said the win will help her gain confidence ahead of a busy season. “We have the Asian Games and the World Championships later this year. I will remember this performance to gain confidence but at the same time I will also work on my future matches,” she said.Esha’s coach Ronak Pandit said the change in grip has done her good.
