Israel and Iran are locked in a growing conflict, trading with missiles and focusing on key infrastructure. In response, Air India Tata Group announced a “proactive” change to its flight routes and confirmed that its services are currently not working on the airy spaces of Iran, Iraq and Israel.
On Saturday, Air India spokesman said on Saturday that the airline will start to avoid the specific parts of the Persian Gulf airspace in the coming days. This decision affects flights to several Middle East destinations, including SAE, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait.
“As a proactive measure in the coming days, we are gradually avoiding the use of a certain airspace over the Gulf of Persian, and instead we decide on alternative ways to flights to destinations including SAE, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait,” the spokesman said.
The interruption may result in a longer duration of flight for these routes as well as selected services operating to Europe and North America.
The airline added that it worked closely with external security advisors and is constantly monitoring the evolving situation in the region. “We are ready to implement further measures, if necessary, to keep the safety and integrity of our operations,” the statement said.
The main airlines of Israel – including El Al, Arkia and Israir – also announced the suspension of all rescue flights to return citizens until the next announcement. El al also extended the suspension of its regular planned flights to 27 June.
German Lufthansa stopped flights to Tehran and now avoids the airspace above Iran, Iraq and Israel. Emirates canceled the services to Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Iran, while Qatar Airways temporarily suspended flights to Iran, Iraq and Syria.
Several international carriers have already suspended operations to the AZ Tel Aviv after the rocket released by Yemen Houthi insurgents landed near the airport of the city 4th May.
In response to the escalation of regional tensions and recent American strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, Israel closed its air space as a preventive measure, according to the Israeli airport office. However, land transitions to Egypt and Jordan remain open.
