Ishan Kishan makes history, becomes fifth batsman to hit double century in Duleep Trophy final
Ishan Kishan (Image credit: BCCI Domestic) Ishan Kishan put up a brilliant batting show in the Duleep Trophy final between the East and South Zones at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Monday.After ending the opening day with a century, Kishan continued his attacking batting on Day 2 against Tilak Varma’s South Zone. He went on to complete a double century and became only the fifth batsman in Duleep Trophy history to score 200 or more runs in the final.Kishan reached the milestone in style. He guided Devdutta Padikkala through the cover region for a boundary to bring up his double century. He then removed his helmet as his teammates applauded his outstanding effort in the locker room.It was also Kishan’s first double century in first-class cricket.
Kishan joins the elite list
Kishan joined four other batsmen to score double centuries in the Duleep Trophy final.The list includes:
- Raman Lamba – 320 Vs. West Zone, 1987-88
- Anshuman Gaekwad – 216 vs North Zone, 1987-88
- Cheteshwar Pujara – 256 not out vs India Red, 2016-17
- Yashasvi Jaiswal – 209 vs South Zone, 2022-23
- Ishan Kishan – 250 (retired injury) vs South Zone, 2026
Kishan continued to dominate the south zone bowlers and eventually scored 250 runs off 301 balls, hitting 27 fours and seven sixes, before being injured.He received a standing ovation from his East Zone teammates when he returned to the pavilion after a memorable innings.
