X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a global outage on Friday, January 16. Thousands of users in major Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, as well as in the US and UK, reported that the web platform and its apps did not load for some time on Friday, with many seeing only a blank screen.
While the social media platform is now working for several users around the world, some are still complaining about the outage.
Social media users react
Here’s what social media users are saying –
One user wrote: “X doesn’t work worldwide. Now I see how addicted I am to this platform 🤣”
Another asked: “X looks down… or is it just my connection?”
He said, “X is down. At first I thought Elon suspended my account.”
“Twitter went down for about an hour and it was literally hell I couldn’t stand my own thoughts!” another user said.
X outage on Friday
By 10:22 a.m. ET, more than 62,000 users in the United States had reported problems with the social media platform, according to Downdetector, which aggregates outage reports from various sources.
Around 11,000 incidents were reported in the UK and Down Detector saw a significant spike in reports of issues at X around 3pm local time, which is 9pm IST.
Meanwhile, users in India have reported more than 3,000 issues. However, the monitoring site noted that the actual number of affected users may differ from the reported numbers, as these reports are made by users.
Second outage this week
X’s disruption on Friday comes after the social media platform reportedly suffered another outage three days ago on January 13.
X experienced a widespread outage on Tuesday evening (January 13), with users in India and the US reporting difficulties accessing the app and website. Downdetector has received thousands of complaints, with major cities in both countries among the most affected.
