Symptoms of Chikungunya
The key symptom of chikungunya is severe pain and stiffness of joints, often affecting hands, wrists, ankles and knees. This joint pain is usually much worse than what can be seen in other viral infections, and helps doctors to distinguish chikungunya from similar diseases.
In addition to joint pain, patients can also experience muscle pain, fatigue and general weakness. A red, uneven rash may appear on the hull, limbs or face. Symptoms usually begin three to seven days after being bitten by an infected mosquito.
Chikungunya treatment
There is no cure for chikungunya, so treatment focuses on alleviating symptoms. Doctors usually recommend a lot of rest, remain hydrated and use medicines such as painkillers and fever reduction. Non -steroidal anti -inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can also be administered to reduce pain and fever during the acute phase of the disease.
