Avesh Khan of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) could find himself under scrutiny after a controversial moment during his side’s five-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday, April 5.
Chasing a modest target of 157, LSG needed nine runs in the final over to seal the game. Captain Rishabh Pant rose to the occasion and hit two boundaries to bring the score level. With nerves rising, Pant finished the job in style on the penultimate delivery, lofting the ball over midwicket for the winning boundary.

However, this moment was not without drama. As the ball raced towards the boundary, Avesh Khan, who was behind the ropes, appeared to touch it with his bat. While the act raised eyebrows, it didn’t appear to have any material impact on the outcome. No fielder could prevent a boundary and Pant had already completed the run in any case.

Even so, the incident sparked a debate. It is common knowledge that players not in the starting eleven should not enter the field of play or interfere in any way, except in specific circumstances such as strategic time-outs, medical assistance or approved equipment changes.
Avesh Khan might have been expensive with the ball but he picked up two wickets. He finished with figures of 2/36 after dismissing Heinrich Klaasen and Harsh Dubey in successive deliveries during the 19th over of the first innings.
SRH TO GO TO BCCI?
According to a Cricbuzz report, SRH are unhappy with the many decisions that have gone against them this season, with the Avesh Khan incident being one of several issues. The franchise had earlier expressed displeasure with Heinrich Klaasen’s dismissal against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he was caught by Phil Salt, as well as Abhishek Sharma’s dismissal in their subsequent game against Kolkata Knight Riders, which included a catch by Varun Chakravarthy.
Although SRH managed to win this season, they also suffered two defeats. While it is unlikely that the results of these matches could be overturned, the report suggests that the franchise is considering approaching the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), if it has not already done so, to clarify these controversial decisions.
