The Varnakkuda Cultural Festival will be held from December 26 to 30 at the municipal grounds in Irinjalakuda, Minister for Higher Education and Social Justice R. Bindu said.
The event will bring together a star line-up of acclaimed artistes from across South India. As part of the festival, the first-ever Innocent Memorial Award will be presented to actor Tovino Thomas, while the P. Jayachandran Memorial Award will be presented to playback singer Harishankar. Writer Anand will be honored with a special People’s Tribute that recognizes the love and affection of the community.
The prizes will be presented in connection with this year’s artistic and cultural programs, the minister said.
Programs
The festival will begin on December 26 with the Mridanga Mela performed by Korumb Mridanga Kalari. The five-day event will offer a rich and diverse range of performances, including the dance ballet ‘Ente Keralam’ by Kerala Kalamandalam; a music program conducted by Indulekha Warrier; a musical evening by the Ragasa group; a dance performance by actor Ash Sharath; music concert by playback singer Pushpavathy; a musical folk band performance by playback singer and folk artist Athul Narukara and team; performance of Bengali folk art by Purulia Chhau; a ghazal evening by singer Shahabas Aman; a Manipuri dance performance; a musical evening by the Thamarassery Churam band; Kathakku Nritham by Sharanya Sahasra; performances by local artists; and cultural programs of students from various schools and colleges.
