
Commander Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei ordered the appointment of Major Major Amir Hatami as the main commander of the Iranian Islamic Republic as part of the main regrouping in the Iranian military leadership, Tehran Times reported. According to the official Decree, a decision was announced on Friday, where Khamenei cited as the basis for the appointment of Hatami’s “determination, competence and experience”.
“With an extensive group of capable and faithful army staff and experience gained during and outside the sacred defense, it is expected that under your command will try to strengthen combat readiness, strengthen spiritual and ideological foundations, improve personnel care and strengthen cooperation with other armed forces.”
Who is Amir Hatami?
Hatami, 59, followed by Hossein Dehghan and preceded by Mohammad Reza Gharaei Ashtiani. From 2013 to 2021 he was an Iranian Minister of Defense and now took over the regular military forces of the country in the middle of the escalating regional tension.
He is the first Minister of Defense with Artesh’s background in more than two decades and will break the formula since 1989, when the position was held exclusively by officers from revolutionary guards.
