Iran War LIVE Updates: US President Donald Trump has reportedly said the US is “hopefully at the end” of its war with Iran. He said Tehran wants a deal. Axios reported that Trump said Washington heard this directly from Iran.
“I hope we’re at the end of the war,” Trump told reporters. “Iran very much wants to make a deal. We’ll see how it turns out,” he added.
Trump is expected to meet Gulf leaders next Tuesday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York to discuss next steps in the war with Iran, three sources told Axios.
The meeting is expected to focus on US ideas for post-war strategy as Trump and his leadership team work on a “day after” plan, which the report said should be finalized after the midterm elections. One source reportedly said the meeting could be expanded to include other Arab and Muslim leaders.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is urging de-escalation and diplomacy in the Middle East as fighting in Yemen and between the Houthi group and Saudi Arabia intensifies.
Iran supports Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Middle East peace proposals
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Wednesday that the consultations in China were successful and stressed the importance Tehran attaches to its strategic partnership with Beijing.
“Successful consultations in China with our partners. Iran values the strategic partnership we have built over time,” Araghchi said in a post on X.
He said the decisions to be made now would shape the future strategic balance of the region and have far-reaching consequences, adding that President Xi Jinping’s four proposals for peace were “crucial”.
Oman speaks
US officials met with senior Houthi officials in Oman over the weekend, where the Iran-backed group said it had no intention of attacking US vessels and was committed to a 2025 ceasefire with Washington, Reuters reported on Wednesday.
