Iran warned of any military aggression and repeated that “war” in his official response to a recent letter to US President Donald Trump, an Iranian military official said.
In March 2025, Trump sent a letter to the highest leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who gave Iran for two months to ensure a new nuclear agreement or face a potential military action.
In response, Khamenei said that Iran would not “start war but respond to any threat with full force”, according to the CEO Mohammad Bagheri, Iranian chief of the armed forces staff, as stated by the state intelligence agency for the Republic.
“We are looking for peace,” says Iran
Mohammad Bagheri added that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has already shown that “Iran will be looking for peace in the region” and “does not follow nuclear weapons in the nuclear program, but rather the needs of our (their) people,” Bloomberg said.
Trump was also stated in Khamenei’s message that Iran would not have direct conversations with his administration, “but indirect conversations are acceptable,” Bagheri said. The text of the letter was not officially published.
Direct conversations with Washington “nonsense”
Donald Trump said last week that he believed that the Republic of Islam was opened by direct negotiations on his nuclear program, although the Iranians had previously rejected this assumption.
On Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reaffirmed the attitude of Tehran and said that direct conversations with Washington would be “nonsense”, but Iran remains “willing to explore the path of indirect negotiations”.
In 2018, Trump unilaterally withdrew the US from a global agreement that limited Iranian nuclear activities in exchange for sanction relief. Since returning to the office, its so -called “maximum pressure” campaign against Tehran has again introduced sanctions, and warned against possible military behavior if the efforts to collapse a new trade.
