(Bloomberg) – Iran will remain part of a nuclear proliferation agreement, the President of the country said, despite the imminent threat of renewed UN and domestic pressure from some legislators, to accept a more aggressive posture.
“We do not intend to leave NPT,” said Iranian President Masoud Pezshkian on Friday at a hotel at Midtown New York.
The President’s words meant a shift in the tone since July, when the main Iranian negotiator said they had not rule out leaving the agreement.
After the European powers moved to re -regulation of nuclear sanctions against Iran, which were abolished in the 2015 nuclear agreement with the US and other nations, diplomats feared that Tehran would withdraw from the international agreement to prevent the dissemination of nuclear weapons.
Pezshkian’s assurance came on the same day – and at the same hour – that the UN Security Council voted to re -present a wide sanctions on Tehran. UN leaders rejected the offer to extend the deadline for sanctions to return to the place, which means that sanctions that were canceled under the 2015 Agreement will come into force on Saturday night in New York.
Pezshkian added that the decision to remain in the agreement could not be influenced by other countries in response to the question of the influence of China and Russia, which supported Tehran and defended with the name of the UN.
For years, Iran refused that his nuclear program was for military purposes. However, even without leaving NPT, the country’s leadership faces pressure from Iran to change their set goals.
On Sunday, the Iranian Parliament will discuss a letter to its members who demand a change in the politics of a country that does not follow nuclear weapons, and will increase bets in diplomatic clearing over the atomic work in Tehran.
