Iran denied that these were direct conversations with the United States on his nuclear program, which is contrary to the claims of President Donald Trump.
Foreign Minister ABBAS ARAGHCHI confirmed that indirect interviews should be planned in Oman, but insisted that any discussion with Washington would be carried out through intermediaries.
“It’s the same opportunity as the test. The ball is in the American court,” Araghchi said on X and reaffirmed the Iranian attitude.
Mediation via Oman
According to the Iranian state medium, Aragghchi and US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff will be interviewed, with Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Al Bubaidi served as an intermediary. The meeting is scheduled for Saturday in Muscat in Oman.
Trump claims direct connection
When he spoke from the White House on Monday, President Trump claimed: “We have direct conversations with Iran and started. It will be on Saturday. We have a very big meeting and see what can happen.”
He said that the discussion was “almost at the highest level”, although he did not disclose who would attend or where the meeting would take place.
Warning from Trump: “A very bad day for Iran”
While Trump expressed hope of a diplomatic breakthrough, he issued a strong warning if the negotiations fail: “Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, and if the interviews are not successful, I actually think it will be a very bad day for Iran.”
He emphasized the preference for diplomacy and said, “Everyone agrees to be better.”
Tension remains high
The replacement comes in the middle of the increased tension, with Trump previously warning of a possible military action if Tehran refused to negotiate. In March, he sent a letter to Iran’s highest leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who urged the conversations, even though Iranian officials said that Tehran would not be forced.
Iran maintains a civilian purpose of nuclear program
Tehran consistently claimed that his nuclear program is intended for peace, civilian energy purposes. However, Western nations remain skeptical and accuse Iran of carrying a secret arms agenda.
When both parties prepare for Saturday’s indirect conversations, the future hangs the future of American nuclear diplomacy-mezi by a diplomatic breakthrough and a return to confrontation.
