IPS trainee accused of sexual assault found unconscious

An IPS officer practicing in a sexual harassment and assault case collapsed at a friend’s residence in Moti Nagar on Monday morning, with doctors at a private hospital ruling out a suicide attempt and attributing his condition to excessive alcohol consumption.

Uday Krishna Reddy, who is facing charges by an IPS officer from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), was brought to Jayanthi Super Specialty Hospital around 9.30 am by his brother and friends after he was found unconscious at a family friend’s residence in Erragadda.

In an interview with The Hindu, Dr. Ravishankar Reddy said the family suspected an overdose of alcohol and also noticed a disinfectant bottle next to the bed. “He was unresponsive and completely unconscious when he was brought in. We did a gastric lavage and it was clear with no traces of tablets. His blood and urine samples were sent to the lab and the reports came back negative for drugs. However, alcohol consumption was high,” he said.

The doctor said the IPS trainee regained consciousness in the afternoon and a medico-legal case (MLC) was prepared. By Monday evening, he was feeling better, although he was slightly dizzy, and his condition was to be monitored 24 hours.

Reddy’s younger brother told reporters at the hospital that Uday Krishna was found unconscious around 6:00 a.m. and was taken to the hospital. The family said Reddy was in severe mental distress ever since reports of the sexual harassment case against him started appearing in the media on Sunday. The presence of bottles of alcohol and disinfectant in the room led them to suspect that he might have consumed them together.

This development came a day after Reddy posted on social media a request that the media check the facts before reporting the allegations against him. He called the complaint baseless and said he believed in the legal process.

On Sunday, the Attapur police registered a case against Reddy on the complaint of a fellow IPS trainee. She claimed he sent her sexually abusive messages, made derogatory comments about her in front of fellow trainees and repeatedly accused her of having a relationship with another trainee.

Meanwhile, police officers from Borabanda, SR Nagar and Sanath Nagar said they had no information about the incident at the hospital and no separate case had been registered in connection with it.
