Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Virat Kohli lifts the IPL trophy (Getty Images) The Kerala High Court has dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the use of the name “Indian Premier League” by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Petitioner Ashique Karoth, who identified himself as a social worker, alleged that the BCCI T20 league was using the title illegally.A division bench comprising Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Syama Kumar VM observed that the petitioner had only recently realized that the IPL was not an official national cricket tournament despite its long-standing presence. “We do not find any merit in the said argument and therefore we do not think it would be proper to keep this suit as a Public Interest Litigation (PIL),” the judges said.
