Praful Hinge could not have asked for a more dream debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after the Vidarbha pacer struck three times in his very first match against Rajasthan Royals on Monday. Defending over 200, the Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer dismissed Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Dhruv Jurel and Lhuan-dre Pretorius to become the first player in the history of the tournament to take three wickets in the opening innings.
Hinge was set to make his IPL debut in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s last match against Punjab Kings after being named in the coin toss by captain Ishan Kishan. But the 24-year-old suffered heartbreak when he found out that Jaiydev Unadkat would take the field in his place.
After Yashasvi Jaiswal slid his first ball to third man, Suryavanshi went for a pull on the first ball he faced. The ball had a strong top edge only for Salil Arora to complete the catch. Two balls later, Dhruv Jurel played on his stumps before Pretorius was caught by Nitish Reddy at deep backward square leg.
That’s not all. Hinge came back in his second over to get the better of opposition skipper Riyan Parag to take four wickets in his first two overs to leave Rajasthan Royals at 9/5 after three overs in the chase. Hinge finished with 4/34 in his four overs, narrowly missing out on five wickets.
What is Praful Hinge’s IPL Salary?
Hinge, who has impressed with the red ball in his 10 first-class matches, played a key role in Vidarbha’s maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy triumph. The home grind turned out to be a good one for Hinge as it was picked up at base price ₹30 crore during the auction last December.
Picked up as a senior back-up option in the side, Hinge has proved to be one of the cost-effective scouting finds for the 2016 champions in the ongoing season. Except his ₹30,00,000,000,000, Hinge will benefit greatly from the BCCI 2025-27 cycle structure.
According to the new remuneration structure, published on the official IPL website, Hinge will be paid per match fee ₹7.5 million per game, in addition to his negotiated amount. This means if Hinge plays the remaining nine matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad, he will pocket the total ₹75 crores only as match fees this season. While players are eligible for performance-based bonuses, this is split between the entire team.
