South African batsman Rilee Rossouw has attracted attention after making a comparison between the Indian Premier League and the Pakistan Super League. The left-hander is currently representing Quetta Gladiators in the 11th edition of the PSL.
Rilee Rossouw compared the Indian Premier League and the Pakistan Super League and said that both have their pros and cons. The 36-year-old noted that the IPL is longer and more entertainment-oriented due to the involvement of Bollywood, while the PSL is shorter, more intense and offers tougher competition on the field.
“Both leagues have their pros and cons. The IPL is a very long tournament and the PSL is a much more compact tournament where the competition is much fiercer. Of course, the IPL is backed by all of Bollywood, so it’s much more a movie than real cricket,” Rossouw said on the sidelines of the PSL.

Formerly Adam Zampa who plays for Karachi Kings, he also talked about why he chose PSL over IPL. Zampa said he was not happy with his IPL remuneration, noting that his skills and impact as a spin specialist were not reflected fairly in a two-month tournament like the IPL.
HOW DID ROSSOUW PLAY IN THE IPL?
Rossouw has had a start-to-start in the Indian Premier League since first entering the auction in 2011. Although initially picked by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he did not feature this season and had to wait until 2014 to make his IPL debut.
Over the years he represented teams like Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings but never secured a long-term spot due to strong overseas competition and erratic form. In 22 IPL matches, he scored 473 runs at an average of 23.65 and a strike rate of around 153, including two fifties, with a best of 82 not out.
In 2024, he was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 8 crore but was released before the 2025 season. In the 2025 mega auction, he registered for a base price of Rs 2 crore but was not sold.
Rossouw was picked by Quetta Gladiators for PKR 5.55 million, which is approximately INR 1.66 million, in PSL 2026. In four matches, he scored 79 runs at an average of 19.75 and a strike rate of 111.26, with a top score of 53 against Rawalpindi on April 10.
