Lungi Ngidi was stretchered off after a nasty blow to the head while catching against Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
He took a nasty fall while trying to make a catch and had to be stretchered off the field. Ngidi, who came on from midway through the third round, tried to settle under the skier off the bat of Priyansh Arya but misjudged the chance and crashed into the turf, landing heavily on the back of his head. The severity of the fall was immediately evident as Delhi Capitals players and support staff rushed to him, with several visibly shaken by the incident. Kuldeep Yadav, David Miller and others stood by with anxious expressions as the physio ran out to attend to the South African.
Medical staff quickly fitted Ngidi with a neck brace as a stretcher was brought onto the pitch, followed shortly by an ambulance with a clear indication of the severity of the injury. In a positive early sign, live visual effects showed Ngidi communicating with doctors during treatment, even as all necessary precautions were taken. Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting also entered the field as the situation developed, while Dushmantha Chameera began warming up as a probable concussion replacement. After a few tense minutes in the middle, Ngidi was carefully stretched and taken to an ambulance for further medical evaluation.
This is a developing story. It will be updated.
