Chennai Super Kings have been dealt a major blow ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League season. CSK’s death-overs specialist Nathan Ellis, one of the best T20I bowlers in the world, has been ruled out of the tournament.
While the development has not been officially announced by the franchise, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed the news to Sportstar on Thursday, March 19. The report added that Ellis has suffered a hamstring injury and will not recover in time for the IPL.

“It’s a big blow for us. Ellis is a key bowler, especially in the death overs. We are looking for replacements,” said Kasi Viswanathan.
Ellis was expected to play a key role in CSK’s plans this season. With his ability to bowl a variety of cutters and yorkers, the Australian was ready to orchestrate the bowling attack outside the power play.
CSK BOWLING OPTIONS
Chennai will now rely on the power-play strengths of Khaleel Ahmed and Matt Henry, along with the spin of Noor Ahmad through the middle overs. They don’t have any death-and-death specialist in the team but the likes of Mukesh Choudhary and Jamie Overton are options they could explore in the upcoming edition.
CSK was among the first teams to start the pre-season camp this year. The side will also be without the services of Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran this season. Instead, they strengthened their wicketkeeper-batsman role by adding Sanju Samson. The in-form batter is expected to open alongside skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad as CSK prepares for a transition phase after the MS Dhoni era.
