Lungi Ngidi suffered a gruesome on-field injury during the IPL 2026 clash between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, leaving him unconscious for a while and the match coming to a complete halt as players on both sides looked visibly shaken.The incident took place in the third over of the Punjab Kings’ innings when he was bowled by Axar Patel when Priyansh Arya fired in the deep. Positioned in the field, Ngidi made a good judgment call and stepped back to attempt what appeared to be a routine catch.However, as he reached for the return, he lost his balance and couldn’t even get a fingertip to the ball. In the process, he landed heavily on the back of the head and neck, causing immediate alarm on the field.Medical personnel quickly rushed in as players from both teams gathered around. Play was stopped for more than 10 minutes while Ngidi was treated on the field before being stretchered off and taken by ambulance to hospital for further evaluation.The severity of the fall caused immediate concern as Vipraj Nigam was brought in as a concussion replacement. Despite the horrific incident, the IPL later confirmed that Ngidi was stable and expected to be released.He was admitted to BLK-Max Super Specialty Hospital in Delhi and later discharged after observation. Delhi Capitals co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi also visited the hospital to check on his condition.
