The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revised the schedule of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season and swapped the matches between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings due to the municipal corporation elections in Ahmedabad.
The afternoon clash originally scheduled for April 26 in Ahmedabad will now be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from 3:30 PM IST. The opposite match on 21 May has shifted to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where it will be held as an evening match from 19:30 IST.
The decision was taken in light of civic elections in Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat on April 26, with logistical and security considerations guiding the change.
The IPL 2026 season began on March 28 with the opening match between defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. A total of 21 matches have been played so far in the 19th edition of the tournament.
The BCCI initially released only a partial schedule due to the ongoing state elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Assam. After announcing the voting date the complete schedule of league stages was confirmed on March 26just two days before the start of the season.
The remaining 50 league matches are played from April 13 to May 24 at 12 venues — Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, Dharamshala, Raipur and New Chandigarh. The second phase includes eight double-headers, with the afternoon matches starting at 3:30 PM IST and the evening matches starting at 7:30 PM IST.
BCCI is yet to announce the play off venue. However, the IPL 2026 final is expected to be held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium after Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the title last season.
As it stands, Rajasthan Royals are leading the points table while three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders are currently at the bottom.
