His versatile brilliance also saw him picked up eight goals.
One of the most famous moments of the tournament came to smoke against Vidarbh during the quarterfinals when the Indian captain T20i Suryakumar Yadav was bent after his stunning knocking.
IPL | SuryANSH SHERED OF PANJAB KINGS: From playing under Shreyas to dreaming of meeting Kohli
SHEDGE, who went in No. 6 with 60 runs out of 24 balls, broke the undefeated 36 of just 12 vans (four six, one four), powered Mumbai to the semifinals.
In the finals he was also the best in his explosive and saved the Mumbai sensational 36 out of 15 balls to win the title. His heroism brought him the player of the match at the Summit Clash match.
His consistency and intervention of power in the domestic cricket paved the way for the IPL contract.
Shedge debuted the IPL against the Gujaratian Titan, but did not get a chance to bat. 22-year-old, however, watches the eyes in a larger image-reports a virat and shares a field with him when Kings Pandjab faces royal challenges Bengalur on 18 and 20 April.
Timesofindia.com caught up with SuryANSH SHEDH to discuss his way under Iyer and Rahan, his breakthrough home season and his dream of meeting virat. Excerpts:

How instrumental was Shreyas when he helped you secure an IPL contract with Kings Pandjab? When you played under him for Mumbai, did you get a call from him before the auction?
No, I didn’t get a call from him, so I’m not sure of his role in my choice. But I can only say that it is someone I look at and playing under it has always been fun. Under his leadership I played two white balls and in one of them we won the championship. The way he manages his players, the environment he creates, and the friendship we all share – all of this comes from the captain himself. A lot of loan goes to him.
In the match against Gujarat Titans was Shreyas at 97, but still encouraged Shashank Singh to come out in the last six balls instead of concentrating in his century. Do you remember any other instance where Shreyas favored the team over personal milestones?
One moment that comes to mind is the Vijay Hazare trophy against Hyderabad. We were chasing a relatively low goal and Shreyas usually bats at 3 or 4, but promoted American young people before him and came in No. 8 or 9. This is just a kind of selfless player he is. This has always been the case, and therefore he was so successful. This thinking – always put the team in the first place – is something I relate to. We both believe that the team comes first, so we have joined so well. Over the years he has always put his team over personal milestones and this attitude is contagious.
As a captain of his leadership, his leadership will affect every player in the group and we all get it.

A picture of Suryakumara Yadava, who bowed to you after Mumbai’s victory Smat became viral. Can you share the story behind this moment? What did that mean to you?
This photo means the world to me because I repeated it. When the current Indian captain T20 evaluates you, it increases your trust and reassures you. When the IPL happened so fast, everything felt like a storm, but the moment was even more strange. After sharing a dressing room with so many giants, this gesture received a lot from him.
Would you say your launch style resembles Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav or Shreyas Iyer?
I wouldn’t compare my approach to launching with any of the current crickets – I’m my own player. Each of them has a unique style and you can learn a lot by observing them. I picked up things from all, but my playing style is my own. Shreyas Bhaiya plays differently, Rohit Bhaiya plays differently and Surya Bhaiya plays differently. There is so much we have to learn, and I try to integrate these lessons into my intention, practical sitting and matches. But I never intentionally tried to replicate the launch style when I’m out there.
Who are crickets that you admire most and why?
I admire Virata Bhaiya a lot with Ben Stokes and Shreyas Bhaiya. I know that Shreyas personally personally now – it is someone you can watch, both as a player and as a human being. The way we talk to you and the conversations we have about cricket, even outside the field, shows how passionate he is. Its enthusiasm can be felt and it is contagious.
Virat Bhaiya is Master Chase – I have learned so much of watching him over the years. As for Ben Stokes, I admire his thinking. Whenever the team needs it, it enters up, be it launching, bowling, field or captain. He did everything for his country and there is a lot to teach. So these three are players I really look at.
You mentioned your admiration for Hardik Pandy and Ben Stokes. Have you ever had a chance to meet them or conversion with a hardship?
I’ve never met Ben Stokes, but I met Hardik Pandy. Maybe he doesn’t remember, but I have! He has another aura – you can feel it when you are around him. The number of games he won for India speaks of his character and how well he has prepared where he is today.
Kings Panjab still has to face RCB, where you go against the virtual kohli. You’ve already talked about him – how do you feel about meeting him on the pitch? Do you have any plans or specific things you would like to discuss with it?
If I have a chance to talk to him, I would ask how he managed to perform so consistently at such a high level. You have to give recognition to someone who has given the country so much. He has done it for years and whenever the team needs it, he is there.
I would like to choose a brain about how it behaves, how it prepares and how it constructs its shifts. It opens shifts, remaining so often undefeated and maintains such a high strike – it is commendable. There’s so much to learn from him. Sharing the field with him will be unreal. I don’t think I believe it initially when I see him standing there, but it had to happen sometimes, and I’m just blessed that it’s happening this year.

How did it contribute to your development as a cricket playing home cricket and sharing dressing rooms with higher players in Mumbai?
Playing with such individuals teaches you a lot. You watch how they live, approach their game and their lifestyle outside the field. At this level, the skill gap is not huge – it is a mental aspect that distinguishes players. Those who can get under pressure prevail.
Sharing the dressing room with giants, especially with famous Mumbai players who played the highest level, gives me an advantage when they face demanding situations. I have already chosen their brains about how they approach different scenarios. I can’t share everything on the camera, but I learned a lot.
How valuable was the presence of higher players, such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the home cricket, for young crickets in terms of experience and development?
It helped us a lot. When you share a dressing room or play against certain players, you observe their preparation, preliminary routines and thinking in different situations.
For example, if I am waiting for BAT and Surya Bhaiya sitting next to me, our conversations help me understand what needs to be done and how to get closer to the game. This experience prepares you for the future, so when you are alone, you know exactly what to do. It gives you a lot of clarity.
You often attributed Abhishek Nair to shaping your career. Now that it is part of the Indian team coaching staff, have you talked to him about your desires to play for India?
Each cricket dreams of playing for India. At some point, we all imagined we were wearing the jersey whenever we close our eyes.
I was lucky to have worked closely with someone who understands what it means to play at this level. I have been with him for almost three years and knows exactly how things work. It’s someone I can blindly watch. No matter how many questions I have, I can always go to it and ask freely.
This transition from the junior cricket to seniors cricket was difficult, but Abhishek Sir helped me a lot. I’m also talking to Manish Bangger Sir, my child coach who laid the foundation for my technique. And I also had interviews with Monty Desai Sir. But when it comes to bridging the gap between junior and senior cricket, the leadership of Abhisheka Sir was invaluable. His approach to the game is different and you can feel when you take part in his training sessions. I really enjoy training under it and learn from it.
Did Abhishek Nair tell you something special after you got to the Indian cricket team?
Our conversations are taking place. Whenever I got stuck somewhere, I go to him and whenever I feel I need improvement, she approaches me. He tells me what to do, and I blindly watch it. This is how our relationship works.
