The Indian Premier League 2025 could take place in England if reports based on the United Kingdom were to be believed. Just a few hours after the IPL was suspended for a week, the cricket council in England and Wales (ECB) turned to check the cricket in India (BCCI) and offered the tournament.
The popular English magazine The Cricter reported the development late on Friday 9 May, in the evening. The Indian cricket council was forced to pause the tournament for a week in the middle of the growing tension between India and Pakistan. BCCI announced its decision on Friday, May 9, and even arranged leased flights for all overseas players to get home safely.
Previously, the former English cricket Michael Vaughan also hovered the same idea. Vaughan took X to say that IPL could be hosted in the UK in favor of India because they play England in a 5-match test series right after.
IPL 2025 was suspended for a week when tension increases between India and Pakistan. The decision came after the match on 8 May between Kings Kings and Delhi Capitals was suddenly stopped by a medium game for outage for the HPCA stadium in Dharamsale.
In response to the suspension, the former Captain of England Michael Vaughan designed a possible solution. He explained to X, hovering the idea of relocating the rest of the IPL to Great Britain, where India launched a series of five tests against England from June 20.
“I wonder if it is possible to complete the IPL in the UK … We have all places and Indian players can stay on the test series … just the idea,” Vaughan wrote.
The test series, which takes place in early August, could potentially follow the overcrowded IPL. For this purpose, BCCI may consider using the Asia Cup window – although the tournament itself remains uncertain with regard to the current geopolitical situation.
