Gujarat Titans suffered a significant blow before the playoffs of IPL 2025, while Jos Buttler returned to England for a series of limited against Western India. The franchise decision to invest RS 15.75 crore in the veteran goal was cleverly because Buttler played a key role in helping GT to secure the bed.
His departure, however, is now the main challenge for the Titans, who must win three consecutive matches to win the title. Buttler’s absence leaves considerable emptiness in the line -up – this season was 20.98 % of the total GT runs.
The powerful performance of Titan in the whole league scene was built around the launch trio Buttler, Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill. GT remained most of the season near the top of the table, in their last league match slipped out of the first two after a heavy 83-run defeat Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Buttler closed his IPL 2025 campaign with 538 runs in an impressive 59.77 diameter, including five half -lives and the highest score of 97 not out.
Who replaces Buttler on No. 3?
With Jos Buttler is not available GT brought Sri Lankan dough Kusal Mendis as his replacement. While Mendis has experience in launching on No. 3 in T20 format, his statistics are not particularly encouraging. In 17 matches T20 scored 365 runs on average 22.81, with the highest score of 68, achieved while playing for Kandy Tuskers against Galle Gladiators in 2020 Premier League in Hambantota.
His record in the T20 International is even less impressive. In six shifts on No. 3, Mendis managed only 70 runs on average 11.66, with the highest score of 27 against Australia in Melbourne Cricket Ground in 2022.
Sai Sudharsan was highly effective on No. 3 for Gujarat Titans and scored 818 runs in 20 matches in an impressive average of 48.11. However, moving back to this position would be disrupted by a successful introductory partnership with Captain Shaubman Gill.
The duo accumulated 909 runs in 14 games in IPL 2025 as a couple, a diameter of 69.92, including stands from three centuries and the unsurpassed 205-run partnership against Delhi Capitals at the ARUN Jaitley stadium.
“Not one of the individuals”
Criket director in Titans, Vikram Solandki, Remained unanswered about Buttler’s absenceHe says GT does not depend on one or two individuals for success.
“It is not available for Play -OFF. So we get closer to the game as a team. It’s not one individual or three individuals, as you still remind me – they had a good time,” Solandki said at a press conference after GT lost in Ahmedabad.
“I am glad that the highest order most of the runs scored. That’s a good thing. Yes, that is, the middle order sometimes had no opportunity to bat. But when they played, I think they really gave a good description,” Solandki added.
Gujarat Titani have their task cut when they are preparing to face the Indians in Mumbai, led by a hardship in Maharaja Yadavindra Singh, an international cricket stadium in Mullanpur in Mullanpur, Chandigarh.
