
The Thiruvananthapuram rural police have launched an investigation into the alleged suicide of a former secretary of a Congress-led cooperative bank in Vellanad.
Late Anil Kumar was suspended for almost a year and a half on charges of misappropriation of bank funds in Vellanad Service Cooperative Bank. He was found hanging from a tree near his house in Velloopara on Sunday.
According to Ariad police, the preliminary investigation indicated the possibility of suicide. He is facing investigation for irregularities to the tune of ₹1.5 crore.
Anil’s family members alleged that he was under severe mental stress due to political interference which resulted in sanctioning several loans to people who later defaulted, leading to a major financial crisis. The bank is currently under administrative control.
