Support for agitation led by accredited social health activists (Ashas) in a state requiring fair rewards and pension benefits grew, and the struggle assumes more dimensions as a movement for women’s rights.
In the letter to the Chief Minister Pinaray Vijayan, Kate Lappin, the Asian -Pacific Regional Minister of Public Service International Services (PSI), Global Union Federation, representing more than 30 million workers worldwide providing public services, she asked the State Government to meet Asha Union leaders.
Mrs. Lappin urged the government to “provide global leadership to support female healthcare workers” and recognize ASHA workers as public health workers.
She said that the work of healthcare professionals in the community is vital for public health and sustainable development and should be considered a job, deserving live wages, respect and recognition. Dogs cooperate with healthcare workers in the community of women and their unions in South Asia and the world to end their unrecognized sex -based work, added ..
The Committee on the International Organization of the CEACR Experting Organization (CEACR) has clearly confirmed in its report 2022 that community health workers are “undoubtedly covered with fundamental rights and principles at work”.
Mrs. Lappin pointed out that while more than a million ASHA in India is denied their basic rights, similar workers in Pakistan (known as Lady Health Workers) have ensured the right to be recognized as public health workers and receive minimal wages.
These workers receive monthly wages, leave demands, interim fund and pension benefits.
She called on the government to take immediate and effective steps to ensure that Ashas used fair, dignified, decent and safe working conditions.
Kerala should provide clear leadership in the fight for fundamental labor rights, for other countries in India to follow.
It hoped that the state government favored the demand for ASHA for a monthly honorary of 21,000 GBP and the pension benefits of 5 Lakh for those who leave the service at the age of 62, and thus prove their obligations to social capital, public health and the rights of workers.
