Internal roads in deplorable condition across Hyderabad

Roads dug up and left unattended for months in colonies across the city are testing the patience of vehicle drivers by slowing down the movement of traffic.

While the outrage of the city’s residents over the state of the main roads can be seen all over social media, little attention is paid to the state of the internal roads, which have been deteriorating over the past year.

Major infrastructure works such as the laying of rainwater pipes under the Nala Strategic Development Program and drainage pipes have left several sections bumpy and unwieldy.

An example is the colonial roads in Tarnac between Lalapet and Nacharam main roads which were dug up to lay pipelines but not re-carpeted. The stretch is constantly witnessing two-wheeler and four-wheeler traffic to and from Lalapet, which requires immediate repairs.

“This stretch has never been trouble-free since I knew it. It was either speed bumps or sunken manhole covers or vehicles parked on the side obstructing the drive. Now it has worsened, the entire stretch has become non-negotiable. My car is rocking like a ship,” says Srinivasa Ramakrishna, a regular commuter.

The main road of RTC Colony and the colony road around it in Chintalkunta were also heavily dug up but have not been re-carpeted for several months. The absence of local area representatives since the dissolution of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation council has not helped matters.

“The road here is very busy and vehicles jumping across the road even at low speeds could be dangerous as steering is a challenging task for the driver. Turning became especially difficult with two vehicles in the opposite direction,” said Mohd. Quadri, an auto driver from Jahangir Nagar Colony.

Similar complaints are shared from areas like Hitech City, Gachibowli, Attapur, Rajendranagar, Nizampet, Bachupally and other areas.

“Every internal road is damaged, dug up and looks like a war zone – went to Madhapur-Kakatiya Hills, Ayyappa Society and Gayatrinagar yesterday – total neglect. Just cosmetic touches on some major roads,” wrote Kishore, a user on the X social media platform.

“I am writing this post out of frustration and out of curiosity. Why are the roads in Hyderabad dug up (dug up), wherever you go you can see a patch. All over Hyderabad looks like that. Some areas are not even properly repaired after digging up. Can anyone tell me why they do this?” posted by a Reddit user.
