Instagram tends to implement community notes on its platform. According to the prompter, the meta-owned platform is adding a new option to posts to write community comments. The leak comes weeks after Führer CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the closure of existing fact-checking plans, citing errors and strict content policies. Although the parent company revealed that it would implement community notes on all its social media platforms, no release date has been announced.
According to a topic post by developer Alessandro Paluzzi (@Alex193a), Instagram’s community annotation feature is currently under development and cannot be used by any user. The feature is reportedly in the advanced stage of threading, and community notes are said to be in the beta stage. It is worth noting that Zuckerberg stressed that the feature will be implemented first in the United States and then the rest of the region.
In the screenshot shared by Tipter, you can click on the feature at three vertical points next to each post on Instagram. This option is marked “Write Community Notes” and placed above the report icon. At present, it is not known how to select users for community notes and how to rate written notes.
Meta said community notes will allow people to comment on misleading content from different perspectives and provide other context. Eligible users can write background information or provide opinions-based insights and will post under the post if the community finds it useful.
Zuckerberg explains the decision to abandon fact-checking procedures in a series of threads. “It’s time to go back to the roots of our surrounding free expression and let people make voices on our platform,” he said. He added that content policies will be simplified and for the loss of the mainstream discourses such as immigration, gender and others Restrictions on topics such as Contact” will be removed.
Community Notes feature was first introduced by X (formerly Twitter) in 2021, but it expanded and became popular after Elon Musk took over the company. Several netizens criticized the feature because it took power away from independent organizations and instead held it in the hands of arbitrarily selected groups.
