Instagram announced new features for Direct Message (DMS) on Wednesday. It adds the ability to translate messages in different languages in 1:1 chat, allowing users to schedule messages and making it easier to share music with others without leaving the chat window. Although Instagram used to allow users to pin up to three chat threads on top of DMS inbox, they can now pin specific chats on the instant messaging platform.
New features on Instagram
Instagram details the new features of DMS in its blog post. It introduces a message translation feature, as the name implies, that allows users to translate messages directly in the DMS in their preferred language. At startup, the feature supports 99 languages. The company notes that the messages selected for translation will be shared with Meta.
Another new feature is message scheduling. Similar to the recently introduced feature on iPhones after iOS 18 updates, Instagram now allows users to schedule messages. In addition, they can also arrange reminders. To do this, just press the Send button, select the scheduled date and time, and click send.
The instant messaging platform claims that its latest updates make it easier to find important conversations and keep them convenient. Although before, users can pin up to three chat threads, users can now pin specific messages as well. To access this feature, they need to hold the message and select pin Options.
And, if you are talking to friends in DMS about the latest music, you can now send them a 30-second preview without leaving the chat window. This change applies to 1:1 and group chats. To share a song, open the sticker tray in the chat and click the “Music” option to search for any songs in the audio library. Next, click on the track to send a 30-second preview of the selected track.
The last notable addition is the personalized QR code for shared group chats. Users can create QR codes for specific groups of chats and display them to others who can scan and join the chat. Instagram said this eliminates the need to add everyone specifically to group conversations.
