
Instagram announced a new standalone app on Monday that allows creators to edit their videos with more creativity and precision than social media platforms offer. It is called “edit”, and it is a mobile video editing solution that uses a suite of creative tools such as enabling high-quality video capture, dedicated tabs for drafts and videos, and for resolution, Camera settings for frame rate and dynamic range. Editor users will also be able to take advantage of artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities that are expected to provide animation.

In a post on the topic, Instagram head Adam Mosseri details the arrival of the new editing app. According to the announcement, the app is for users who are “keen on making videos” on their smartphones. The editing process is said to be simplified by capturing high-quality video and allowing for quick editing. With editing, creators can export videos without any watermark and share them on Instagram including 1080p. A new tag allows them to track all drafts and videos in one place.
Instagram says the Edits app is currently available for pre-order on iOS on the App Store and will soon use Android. It is expected to be downloaded next month.
The editing application comes with creative tools for editing videos with single frame accuracy. Creators can adjust their camera settings to get frame rate, resolution, and dynamic range. It also improves flash and zoom controls compared to Instagram. Then there are AI features, including providing AI animation. In addition to this, the app also allows users to change backgrounds or add video overlays via a green screen.
For editing, creators can choose from filters for a variety of fonts, sounds and voice effects, videos, stickers, and other elements. It claims to enhance audio to remove background noise and provide clearer audio, which will also automatically generate customizable subtitles.
But Instagram’s new editing app offers more than just video editing. Videos created and shared through the app can be tracked using the real-time insights dashboard. It provides creators with a breakdown of the engagement of followers and non-followers and provides metrics such as skip rates. It is also said that it can help the audience plan online videos based on the type of content they like.
