The day after the Congress urged the Indian Election Commission (ECI) to provide a machine -readable digital copy of the Maharashtra voters, ECI sources on Thursday (June 26, 2025) said that demand is “cannot be prevailing in 2019 in 2019.
ECI sources said that while the leader of the Rahul Gandhi Congress demands that he has been demanding a machine -readable digital copy of the electoral role over the last seven months, the Congress’s demand is not “new”.
“Rather, it has been part of the political party’s strategy for more than eight years, which seems to have been selectively covered in the current representation,” the source stressed.
ECI sources said that the demand was repeated by Mr. Gandhi, albeit in accordance with the position of historically maintained Congress, “cannot be in contours of the predominant legal framework”.
They pointed out that this problem was already disturbed by Congress at the Supreme Court in a written petition in 2018 by Kamal Natha, the then president of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee.
It seems that Mr Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha, did not have to be reasonably familiar with the finality with which the matter ended in the court record, they said.
Referring to the verdict of the Supreme Court in Kamal NATH vs, the Election Commission of India (2019), the sources stated that the Supreme Court noted that it had found strength in ECI.
The provision 11.2.2.2 of the election manual uses the term “text mode”. The proposal of the electoral role in the text regime was delivered to the petitioner, said the top court.
“The provisions do not say anywhere that the proposal of the election role must be placed on the website of the main election officer in the“ searchable PDF ”. Therefore, the petitioner cannot claim that the proposal of the electoral role should be included in the “searchable mode” on the website.
Congress on Wednesday (June 25, 2025) urged ECI to provide a machine -readable digital copy of the Maharashtra voters, along with the video of the State and Haryan Election Day within one week.
Congress and Mr. Gandhi consistently accused the Office for Voting on the Driving of Voters to help BJP.
Mr. Gandhi claimed that the Maharashtra’s public opinion surveys, which took place last year, were manipulated.
The Office for Voting denied the accusation and stated that the elections were strictly held under the electoral laws passed by the parliament.
