
SRM University-AP on Saturday (February 28) hosted German scientists and academics from Freie Universitaet Berlin for an Indo-German scientific meeting that promoted discussions on food safety, molecular epidemiology and veterinary pathology.
Organized by the Department of Biological Sciences in commemoration of the National Science Day celebrations, the meeting facilitated engaging conversations between the delegates and teachers and scientists from the School of Engineering and Sciences (SEAS), SRM-AP
Thomas Alter, Dean of Studies, School of Veterinary Medicine and Director, Institute of Food Safety and Hygiene, Center for Veterinary Public Health, shared an overview of research conducted at the School of Veterinary Medicine, Freie Universitaet Berlin, on food microbiology, highlighting studies of pathogen prevalence and mitigation strategies from farm to fork, along with approaches to molecular epidemiology and population structure.
Robert Klopfleisch from the Department of Veterinary Pathology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine highlighted toxicopathology and explained the transition from animal models to advanced cell culture-based animal-free testing systems that support E and L (extractable and leachable) batteries without animal testing.
Anika Friese from the Institute of Animal Hygiene and Environmental Health spoke about research to improve animal welfare through AMR and bacterial transmission studies, focusing on Campylobacteriosis.
Vice Chancellor, SRM-AP, Ch. Satish Kumar spoke on the importance and impact of the contribution and participation of women in science in accelerating India’s technological and scientific progress
Dean, School of Veterinary Medicine and Director of the Institute of Animal Hygiene and Environmental Health Center for Infectious Medicine and Veterinary Resistance Research Center Uwe Roesler, Professor and Head of the Department of Biological Sciences and Associate Dean–SEAS Jayaseelan Murugaiyan, SEAS Dean CV Tomy and others were present.
