IndiGo Flight Cancellation News Live: At least 175 IndiGo flights were canceled on Thursday, December 4, as disruptions at major airports intensified after strict government regulations on crew safety hit the country’s largest airline’s schedule planning. According to Reuters, thousands of passengers have now been stranded for three days.
On Wednesday, IndiGo, which has more than 60% of India’s domestic market, had already canceled at least 150 flights across key cities.
On Thursday, 73 flights were canceled at the Bengaluru airport, while about 30 were canceled in Delhi and 68 in Hyderabad, according to airport sources quoted by the agency.
The disruption marks a significant setback for the two-decade-old airline, which is known for its punctuality and slogan “IndiGo Standard Time”, reflecting its practice of closing aircraft gates long before departure. The airline said on Wednesday it was making “calibrated adjustments” to its flight schedules over the next two days.
Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, Reuters sources at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport said as many as 33 outbound IndiGo flights are expected to be canceled from the airport on Thursday. Similarly, 35 inbound flights are also likely to be canceled during the day.
What did IndiGo say?
The airline, which operates about 2,300 domestic and international flights daily, said on Wednesday that “a number of unforeseen operational issues” had severely disrupted its network operations in the last two days and apologized to passengers for the inconvenience, a PTI report said.
An airline spokesperson explained in a statement that challenges include “minor technology glitches, winter schedule changes, adverse weather conditions, increased congestion on the flight system and the implementation of updated crew rostering rules (flight duty time restrictions) have negatively impacted our operations in ways that could not have been anticipated.”
